Computer use and pay for performance

Workplace digitalisation is a pervasive phenomenon associated to an increase in wage differentials between occupations. This paper analyses the relationship computer use and pay for performance, whose incidence has also followed positive growth pattern. More concretely, we examined three pay-for-performance schemes: productivity/piece rate, team firm performance. We investigated mediating role of job design this relationship. The complementarity framework perspective economic theory incentives were theoretical approaches applied development hypotheses. Data from four waves European Working Conditions Survey used empirical analyses. A association was found performance schemes considered, particularly results indicated that partially explained by changes due computerisation, such as higher complexity, on-the-job training teamwork.
